Exhibition Leaflets

When thinking of a way finding system I though along side the signs that we will create it would also be useful to have leaflets, for the viewers to be aware of any events that are also going on along side the exhibition, since last year hardly any of the attendees knew about the bands that where performing on the night. These leaflets would also be useful for attendees to understand the room layout and the way the exhibition is structured. These are some basic layout of leaflets that I had found.

This example is taken from the Katowice Street Art Festival, they also made use of merchandise.

Exhibition Branding

This is the first example I found when it came to branding the exhibition, the designers thought of including a lot of other aspects to the exhibition apart from the traditional aspect, they used merchandise to generate public interest and also as a means of fund raising, this could be an interesting idea to implement when creating our own exhibition space.

This is another example that I found that has to do with the branding of an exhibition. This branding is a lot more modern and bold.

London College of Fashion Masters Exhibition

This is yet another example of contemporary design, I like the direction that the designers went in, this sort of exhibition is clean and makes it all about the work. The layout is inviting and the viewers easily know where to go the way the space is used is also very inviting nothing is cluttered leaving it open plan is a good idea for the flow. Again we see the use of white walls and the use of grey walls to create a contrast. What was also interesting was the use of perspex I think this could be an interesting idea to incorporate different mediums of walls. Also they made of a monitors to exhibit videos this is an important element that we need to take into consideration since a number of students may want to exhibit videos  or interactive material in the exhibition.

The Exhibition took place in the ‘Hall Galleries’ in London No information on the budget or the dates was available

ABOUT:

Sala Ciutat:

  • Naming, corporate identity and graphic applications for a new space in Barcelona (carrer ciutat, 2). Sala Ciutat was born with the idea of being a direct way to communicate the citizens with the Ajuntament de Barcelona (city council). The strategic communication project has worked in conjunction with the agency Touchpoint.
  • Concept, curating and design of the first exhibition that opens Sala Ciutat. “Barcelona’s different Barcelonas” explains from various points of view, ways of seeing the city. Photographs, films, books and even the vision of its own citizens make up this exhibition.
  • Ad campaign: Design and creativity of the ad campaign for Sala ciutat and the exhibition “Barcelona’s different Barcelonas”.

I choose this exhibition because, apart from the very bold and distinct style that was chosen I also thought that the way the exhibition was branded and marketed throughout the city of Barcelona was an interesting idea that we could use.

The artist made use of stickers on the wall which could be an interesting idea when it comes to the way finding. They also made use of boxes to create more space in the rooms to exhibition images. The balance of different types of mediums works well and doesn’t overwhelm the space, the balance of photography and graphics work well together and are visually pleasing. The use of white and nude tones on the wall again help to keep the main focus of the exhibition on the artwork and not distract the viewers. The exhibits were evenly spaced and allowed for an easy flow of the space so that people weren’t crammed.  The lighting used is also very important although I think that we usually make use of very good lighting it is important that we keep this in mind as dimly lit exhibits maybe ignored.

Exhibition walkthrough

A dynamic and popular exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the art making component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts, 2011. It includes a broad range of approaches and expressive forms, including ceramics, collection of works, documented forms, drawing, graphic design, painting, photo, media, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and fibre, and time-based forms.

This Exhibition like ours includes a broad range of different types of media and, we will have to take this into account when coming up with the concept for the design of our exhibition. I like the elegant and contemporary solution that they came up with. The use of white walls to keep the attention on the art work is a key element that I think we should incorporate into our designs to make sure that the main focus is on the art work. The flooring is also another important element that should be kept in mind, the floor must look presentable but not take away from the artwork, it should compliment the space.
The exhibition was displayed from the 22nd February till the 22nd April 2012 so it was important that  the space was maintained. The minimalist approach that was taken in this exhibition was useful when it came to maintenance. No information on the budget was available.
